The Dreaded Call As I promised last week, this link is to a short video reenactment of a mother calling her daughter to tell her she won’t be coming home for a long time – ‘the Wrong Path’. This video is a very emotional call that may be upsetting to some.
Ninety percent of the women in prison are mothers with children that will be left behind. Most often fathers are no longer in the picture or never were. These children will follow their parents’ footsteps due to anger, abandonment issues and being tossed from one home to another. They begin to shut down protecting themselves from further pain and their anger leads to rebellion. Transferring from one school to another leads them to poor learning skills and feeling insecure. This often makes them vulnerable for predators such as drug dealers that eventually may lead them to the streets. It’s their pain that sends them down a path of destruction. The circle just continues, and the next generations steps up. It’s not uncommon to see mother daughter and even grandmother serving time together.
I once heard someone say that our correctional system works very well. It works very well for the inmates every time they return. I laughed because finally someone gets it. Repeat offenders are at 82%. Punishment alone is not the answer and the children they leave behind need our help to send home healthy and reformed mothers.
I know what Christian rehabs can do to change lives forever. God rebuilds them from the inside out. It’s not just the drugs and alcohol that they are addicted to but the lifestyle and a frame of mind. These Christian programs are a year or even two in in a hard core Jesus boot camp. We tell them that this is going to be harder than anything they have ever faced before. Going back to the beginning to face the demons that lead them to where they are today. They’re committed and want to learn how to stay clean and sober. They learn how to live healthy and productive lives. It’s the mindset that must be redeveloped. It’s about healing.
I have repeatedly seen complete transformations and families reunited. Lives have been changed forever and they then pass it onto their children.
It costs about $250.000 to $350,000 of your tax paying dollars to incarcerate a women for just one year depending on state or province. You can do some research for breakdowns. We pay that repeatedly for her because of the high percentage of repeat offenders. It will cost less than 10% of that just once to rebuild her and send her home to redirect the next generation.
A Prayer from an inmate.
When I was a child I dreamed of being a teacher. Now I dream that one day when I’m released I can finish My GED and get what I need to be a spokesperson for children. What will stop me from seeing that dream is if I go back to drugs. When I pray I ask God to cleanse me and make me whole again, I pray this for my children and everyone I know.
Wendy, serving time.
Please support Christian rehabilitation centers in your area because they work and you will be helping the children that are left behind.
For a better understanding how God can restore someone, rebuild a person and change a life forever read God’s Unbreakable Love. There is at least one chapter that every person will be able to relate to.
